Space to Write

Writing residential in Northern Ireland

I host and facilitate an annual period of writing residentials at Downhill Beachhouse from late January to early February. This event is literally ‘space to write’ in that it is minimally structured. Around seven writers in any genre – novelists, songwriters, poets come for a minimum of three nights at a time to Downhill to work and foster creative community. Accommodation is in single en-suite rooms. The event is self-catering making use the of beautiful kitchen and dining facilities. Every third night participants share in a group potluck meal and then move to the open fire in the lounge to share work in progress or recent work. 2025 was the 10th year of this event which has hosted more than one hundred writers from across the island of Ireland.
